Classification: ANU Officer Grade 8
Salary package: $94,094 - $100,864 per annum, 17% superannuation, with a possibility of a negotiable loading.
Type: Continuing (Contingent Funded), full time
- Based at the picturesque Mount Stromlo Observatory
- Varied and challenging new role
- Support cutting edge research in Astronomy and Astrophysics
The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) has a long history of research and technical activity at the forefront of astronomy and astrophysics. RSAA builds advanced astronomical instruments for its own telescopes and for other telescopes around the world, including the 25-metre Giant Magellan Telescope in which ANU is a partner. RSAA is also engaged in developing technologies for tracking and manipulating space junk through the Collaborative Research Centre for Space Environment Management, and in the design and construction of small satellites for astronomical and other purposes.
The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation and project management of software for approved RSAA technical projects and activities. The Senior Software Engineer is a key member of the Software Engineering Section and liaises closely with Project Engineers, Project Managers and other members of project engineering teams. The position therefore requires a highly self-motivated individual who can successfully capture software requirements, design the software solution, plan resource needs and implement the design with careful tracking of progress. The position also requires participation in proposals for new projects funded through government grants and/or commercial contracts, with an ability to estimate the software costs and technical risks.
Engineering at the RSAA requires working with state-of-the-art technologies and pushing them to their limits. In most cases it requires achieving something that has not previously been achieved anywhere in the world. Software being a prominent part of any design solution means the Senior Software Engineer will play a key role in ensuring success in these projects.
ANU offers a competitive remuneration and benefits package, a friendly and collaborative work environment, generous leave entitlements, flexible working arrangements, generous superannuation and salary packaging arrangements including child care.
