Classification: ANU Officer Grade 5/6 (Information Technology)
Salary package: $66,904 - $79,230 per annum plus 17% superannuation
Term Length: Fixed term of twelve (12) months with possibility of extension
The Water and Landscape Dynamics Group is a team of about 20 scientists, technical experts and postgraduate students based at the Fenner School of Environment & Society, Australian National University.
We develop and visualise new types of near-real-time information about the environment that improve real-world decision making. For example, to better manage our precious water resources, protect our natural environment, or better anticipate bushfire danger. Satellites, drones and sensor networks are revolutionising our ability to observe the environment around us, and rapid progress in computing and web technology allows us to turn these measurements into useable information and forecasts.
Within a small project team, you will be working on everything between the data server and the user: from designing a useful interface to translating it into code and API calls against the data services. You have much creative input on the design of new and extension of existing services, such as ausenv.online.
There are also opportunities to get involved with other aspects of our work where you wish, for example in sensor and airborne technology, satellite image processing, high-performance computing and scientific research. We will consider part-time working arrangements if that suits you better.
These are exciting times for environmental information, and this is an opportunity to be part of it. If you love creative and effective web design, you enjoy teamwork, and you care about how we deal with the environment and natural hazards, then you are invited to apply!
