The Arndt-Corden Division of Economics in the College of Asia and the Pacific is seeking to make up to three appointments.

The appointee will be expected to carry out frontier research in the following fields: macroeconomics, poverty/food and climate in the Asia Pacific region.

Position OverviewThe Arndt-Corden Division of Economics in the College of Asia and the Pacific is seeking to make up to three appointments.

The appointee will be expected to carry out frontier research in the following fields: macroeconomics, poverty/food and climate change in the Asia Pacific region. Duties will include teaching as well as supervision of PhD students.

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent qualification in economics and research experience and should provide a detailed statement of the research project(s) they intend to pursue during the initial five years. Appointment at the higher levels will require substantial relevant experience and skills.

Position description 
Responsible toDivisional Convener, Arndt-Corden Division of Economics
Role statement PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Division has an ongoing research focus in the Asia-Pacific region and is engaged in teaching and research student supervision in the following areas:
* economic analysis of poverty and related issues, including the role of government policy in alleviating poverty;
* The economics of climate change in the Asia-Pacific region, including resource management and the role of government policy in dealing with environmental problems; and
* applied macroeconomic analysis within the Asia-Pacific region, including the role of government policy in macroeconomic management.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS:
The appointees will be accountable for maintaining a high standard of research output, as reflected in published research output, in one of the following areas:
* empirical and/or theoretical economic analysis on poverty-related issues in the Asia-Pacific region;
* empirical and/or theoretical economic analysis on climate-related issues in the Asia-Pacific region; and
* empirically-based macroeconomic analysis on issues of policy interest within the Asia-Pacific region.
They will also be expected to participate in the Division's teaching and student supervision activities at a degree appropriate to the eventual appointment level.

Position Dimension & Relationships:
The appointees will participate in research within the Division, possibly including collaborative research with others in the Division and elsewhere within the College, participate in student supervision, and be a part of the Division's teaching efforts within the College of Asia and the Pacific.

Role Statement:
Appropriate to their appointment level, the appointees will:
1. Conduct research and scholarly activities either independently or as part of a team
2. Participate in teaching and student advising and/or supervision.
3. Undertake other academic responsibilities and administration tasks consistent with the classification of this position.

A. Qualifications
1. PhD or equivalent qualification in Economics.

B. Experience
1. A record of research, as demonstrated particularly through publications and referees' assessments, in at least one of the following fields:
* Empirical and/or theoretical research on the economic analysis of poverty-related issues;
* The economics of climate change in the Asia-Pacific region;
* Macroeconomics.
2. An interest in the Asia-Pacific economies and a willingness to work on issues related to the region.
3. Ability and willingness to engage in collaborative and interdisciplinary research.
4. Capacity and willingness to teach and to supervise postgraduate students from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
5. Submission of a proposed program of research which is consistent with the priorities and research interests of the Arndt-Corden Division and capable of being completed during the initial five years.
6. Proven capacity and willingness to seek external funding to support the applicant's individual and collaborative research activities.

C. Attributes
1. Capacity to establish and maintain effective relations with colleagues and staff within the School, the University and externally, both nationally and internationally.
2. A demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies and a commitment to their application in a university context.

* Empirical and/or theoretical research on the economic analysis of poverty-related issues;
* The economics of climate change in the Asia-Pacific region;
* Macroeconomics.
2. An interest in the Asia-Pacific economies and a willingness to work on issues related to the region.
3. Ability and willingness to engage in collaborative and interdisciplinary research.
4. Demonstrated substantial record of teaching and to supervise postgraduate students from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
5. Ability to play a major role in all aspects of major research projects including management and/or leadership of large research projects or teams.
6. Submission of a proposed program of research which is consistent with the priorities and research interests of the Arndt-Corden Division and capable of being completed during the initial five years.
7. Successful and substantial record of seeking external funding to support the applicant's individual and collaborative research activities.
