Mathematical Sciences Institute (MSI) within the ANU College of Physical Sciences is seeking to appoint one or more mathematical scientists to Lecturer (Level B) and/or Senior Lecturer (Level C) continuing positions.

Position Overview	We are seeking to appoint one or more mathematical scientists to Level B and or Level C continuing positions in the Mathematical Sciences Institute (MSI). Applicants with research interests in areas of application of mathematics of relevance to MSI and who are interested in a joint appointment with another discipline group, are strongly encouraged to apply. For suitably qualified applicants of exceptional research performance the possibility of an initial joint research position in the Centre for Mathematics and its Applications (CMA) at Level C will be considered. We will consider making more than one appointment for a suitably strong applicant in the areas of (i) modern algebra and algebraic geometry or (ii) probability, theoretical statistics or stochastic modelling research programs of the Mathematical Sciences Institute. The successful applicant(s) will have a demonstrated capacity (relative to opportunity) to build collaborative research links with researchers in other areas of the mathematical sciences and/or with researchers in other disciplines. The successful applicant(s) will also have excellent teaching and communication skills and be able to contribute actively to the development of mathematical sciences and its linkages with other areas and to the promotion of mathematical sciences within the ANU and the broader community. Role statement	Position Description: The Mathematical Sciences Institute is aiming to fill a vacancy with an outstanding mathematical scientist who works in a research area that strengthens our current programs - see http://wwwmaths.anu.edu.au. Applicants whose research has application to other areas of the mathematical sciences or to other disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply. An additional position may be created for a suitable applicant whose research is relevant to one or more of the fields of modern algebra, algebraic geometry, probability, stochastic modelling or theoretical statistics. PURPOSE STATEMENT - ACADEMIC LEVEL B - TEACHING AND RESEARCH The successful applicant is expected to undertake teaching in the undergraduate and graduate program in mathematical sciences as directed by the Associate Director (Education) and will have an affiliation to the Department of Mathematics for this purpose. Research performance at a high international level in fields of relevance to MSI is expected. KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS: Undergraduate teaching, research supervision, graduate coursework in the mathematical sciences. POSITION DIMENSIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS: The successful applicant(s) will be attached to one or more of the MSI research programs and will contribute to the education programs of MSI as appropriate. In the case of an applicant appointed jointly with another School in the ANU a joint affiliation will be created which may also cover shared teaching responsibilities. A mathematical scientist with suitable experience and demonstrated reseach leadership may have a joint fractional appointment to the Centre for Mathematics and its Applications (the purpose of the Centre is described at http://wwwmaths.anu.edu.au. Such an applicant will be expected to be capable of contributing to the international role of the CMA. In addition the successful applicant(s) will contribute to the undergraduate and graduate level courses in the mathematical sciences which are the responsibility of MSI (see http://wwwmaths.anu.edu for the current description of the teaching program). These programs are administered by the Associate Director (Education) within the Department of Mathematics.
